Wearing your Sunglasses on the Beach

Some quick pointers

UV protection: There are many sunglasses that are sold without UV protection. You need to make sure your shades have UV protection – without it, your shades are not enough to protect your eyes from radiation. The beach – especially in the broad light – is an especially important place to wear your sunglasses. Make sure you take advantage of other precautionary measures as well, such as sunblock and a beach hat.

Glare: The sand has the capacity to reflect the light of the sun and sometimes create glare making it difficult to see very far ahead. Glare can also cause eyestrain – you may want to consider polarized sunglasses, and especially if you plan to engage in a water activity, such as jet-skiing or surfing. Water glare is also problematic and is the perfect reason to get polarized shades. If you want you can get two sunglasses for separate functions.

Proper Storage: Carry a glasses case to put store your sunglasses when not in use. The beach is a busy place, with plenty of foot tread; people are always walking or running here or there and playing beach games. It is easy for a straying foot to accidentally step on your shades.

Scratch-resistant lenses: Get sunglasses with scratch-resistant lenses. Polycarbonate is scratch-resistant. The majority of Olympic Eyewear sunglasses are fitted with polycarbonate lenses. Flying sand picked up by the breeze, or kicked up by feet can fly against your shades and make scratches. Your shades can also get scratched by falling into the sand or being accidentally pressed against the sand when you put them down.
